Hungrrr vs Flipdish: Which Restaurant Ordering Platform Should You Choose?
Hungrrr vs Flipdish: The Short Answer
Both Hungrrr and Flipdish let a restaurant take orders directly, on its own website and app, instead of through Just Eat or Deliveroo. That's roughly where the overlap ends. Flipdish also sells a POS, self-service kiosks, an AI phone agent and AI marketing, and it has a bigger operation across the UK and Ireland.
If all you want is a branded ordering site, either will do it. If you want the till, the kiosk, the phone and the website all running off one system, Hungrrr can't do that. Flipdish can.
What Is Hungrrr?
Hungrrr is a UK online ordering platform for independent restaurants and takeaways. It builds branded ordering websites and apps so a restaurant can take orders directly, without a marketplace sitting in the middle and taking commission on every one.
That's the product. Hungrrr is built around online ordering for smaller independents. It doesn't have its own POS, it doesn't sell kiosks and it doesn't have any AI tools.
What Is Flipdish?
Flipdish was founded in Dublin in 2015 and now operates across the UK, Ireland and internationally. It covers most of what a restaurant uses to take, cook and follow up on an order:
- Restaurant POS system - counter and in-store orders
- Online ordering - branded website and app
- Self-service kiosks - mostly QSR and fast-casual sites
- Branded mobile apps - iOS and Android
- AI Phone Agent - answers the phone and takes the order
- AI Marketing - campaigns that go out based on what customers do
- Payments, across every channel
- Customer loyalty, built into ordering
- Delivery management

Online Ordering
Both platforms give you a branded ordering website. Customers pick their food, pay and get a confirmation. Neither one is going to confuse anybody. And every order that comes in through your own site is one you aren't paying a marketplace commission on. That's the whole point of both.
The difference is what happens after the customer taps "order". Flipdish's online ordering is wired into the Flipdish POS and kitchen display, so an online order lands in the same kitchen queue as one rung in at the counter. Nobody retypes it. Nobody reads it off a tablet and shouts it to the kitchen. Change a menu item once in the back office and the website, the app and the kiosk all update together.
You notice this most on a busy night. When online, counter and phone orders run through separate systems, somebody has to keep them in sync. Sold out of the lamb? That's three places to update, and if one gets missed, a customer pays for something the kitchen can't make. On one system you mark it sold out once and it's gone everywhere.
Branded Mobile Apps
Hungrrr makes white-label apps for restaurants. For an independent that wants its own name on the App Store and Google Play, they do what they're meant to do.
Flipdish's branded mobile apps have a bigger product and support team behind them, and they plug into Flipdish's loyalty scheme, AI marketing and push notifications. So the app is more than a menu with a checkout button. It's how you get people to come back.
Customers who download a restaurant's app tend to order more often and spend more per order than people who order on the website. Push notifications are a big part of that. Quiet Tuesday? New dish on the menu? Promotion running this weekend? You send a notification straight to everyone who has your app on their phone. No marketplace takes a cut, and no marketplace decides who sees it. Hungrrr doesn't offer this at the same depth.
POS System
Hungrrr doesn't have a POS. If you use Hungrrr, you need a separate POS for counter and table orders, and getting the two systems to work together is your job.
Flipdish's restaurant POS was built for hospitality and works with every other Flipdish product from day one. Walk-ins, online orders, kiosk orders and phone orders all go through the same system. Staff look at one screen, run reports from one place and update one menu.
Think about close at a takeaway that takes orders at the counter, over the phone and online. With separate systems, somebody sits down after service and tries to make the till's numbers match the ordering platform's numbers. They don't always match first time, and finding out why is nobody's idea of a good end to a shift. With one POS, the night's takings are already in one place.
Self-Service Kiosks
Hungrrr doesn't offer kiosks. No hardware, no software.
Flipdish self-service kiosks are in QSR and fast-casual restaurants. They push average order value up. People browse longer at a screen than they do at a counter with a queue behind them, and they add things. Sides, a drink, an extra dip.
Kiosks also mean fewer staff needed on the front counter at peak times. On a high-volume site, that's a noticeable difference in the wage bill.
The kiosk runs off the same back office as the website, app and POS. Put a new burger on the menu or 86 the chicken wings, and the kiosk shows it straight away along with everything else. Kiosk orders go into the same kitchen queue as the rest, so the kitchen doesn't care where an order came from.
AI Features
This is where the two are furthest apart. Hungrrr has no AI tools. Flipdish has two, and both are built for restaurants specifically.
The AI Phone Agent answers incoming calls and takes food orders, then sends them to the kitchen the same way a web or app order arrives. If your restaurant still gets a lot of phone orders, often from older customers who were never going to download an app, someone normally has to be on the phone during the rush instead of on the line or at the counter. The phone agent takes those calls instead. The orders still come in, and nobody has to stand by the phone with a notepad.
AI Marketing sends campaigns based on what customers actually do. Someone who hasn't ordered in 45 days gets an offer to come back. A cold afternoon sets off a promotion for a warm dish. A customer who has already ordered twice doesn't get the new-customer discount, which is exactly the kind of thing that leaks margin when campaigns are set up by hand. Once it's switched on, it runs by itself. A small team that has never had time to do proper marketing gets it anyway.
Pricing
Hungrrr charges a monthly subscription for its ordering platform. Prices are on its website and depend on which features you take.
Flipdish's online ordering pricing page covers the cost of ordering. The more useful comparison is the whole setup. A restaurant on Hungrrr still needs to pay for a POS, and possibly for separate loyalty and marketing tools as well. Flipdish puts the POS, ordering, apps, loyalty and marketing on one platform, so the total often comes out about the same as, or lower than, buying those tools from separate vendors.
If you expect to add a POS, kiosks or a loyalty programme soon, start on a platform that already has them. Moving later costs money. It also costs staff time: a new system, new training, and a few rough services while everyone gets used to it.
Which Is Better for Small Restaurants?
Hungrrr is aimed at small independents. It covers direct online ordering for restaurants that don't want or need a full platform yet.
Flipdish works with single-site independents too, and has pricing tiers for smaller businesses. The difference shows up when you grow. Add a POS, kiosks, AI phone ordering or a second site and you stay on the same system. You don't switch providers, retrain staff or move your customer list somewhere new.
A single-site takeaway that will only ever want an ordering website will be fine on Hungrrr. One that's already thinking about a second shop should ask itself whether it wants to change platforms when that happens.
Which Is Better for Growing Restaurant Groups?
Flipdish, and it isn't close. Hungrrr is built for independents. It doesn't have the central management, cross-location reporting or enterprise tools a chain needs.
With Flipdish, head office manages menus, promotions and reporting across every site, while each site still runs its own day-to-day operations. Change a price centrally and it goes out to every location. Compare one site's sales against another's from the same dashboard. Franchise groups and expanding chains choose Flipdish specifically for this.
The Verdict
Hungrrr works. It's a direct ordering tool for small restaurants starting out with their own channels, and it does that job.
Flipdish covers far more: winning new customers, getting them to come back, raising order values and cutting the cost of each order, across every channel a restaurant takes orders through. The native POS, the kiosks and the AI tools are the parts Hungrrr simply doesn't have.
If you want a platform you won't have to leave when the business gets bigger, go with Flipdish.
